This month the UK formally joined the CLARIN European Research Infrastructure Consortium as a full member. CLARIN has been an ERIC since 2012, with the involvement of UK researchers from the start, but now for the first time as full members, able to access the full benefits, and shape the direction of CLARIN.
UK membership of CLARIN has been supported by funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). This investment will provide important opportunities for UK-based researchers while raising the profile and accessibility of research project and outputs in this country. It also represents a strong commitment from UKRI to work together collaboratively with colleagues from Europe.
The formal application was made by the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology for the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and it names AHRC Tao-Tao Chang (Associate Director, Infrastructure & Major Programmes, AHRC) to represent it as the official delegate at meetings of the General Assembly of CLARIN ERIC, and Martin Wynne as the National Coordinator.
